Re: Survival List - Feel free to include
Non sporting food gathering essentials. Water purification. Seed.
Though it is so different according to for how long. To walk out of 100 miles in a wilderness is utterly different from forever on an island. Plus, of course, where. The Chihuahuan desert or the high Rockies would need very different things. |
Re: Survival List - Feel free to include
OK, this list was made up TEN YEARS ago. It is WAY out of date. It's worth what you paid for it. For example, we have a 'camping' food box. Holds all that's listed and then some. When we are ready for a three day outing, grab that, our two burner stove and water and away we go.

You will see TP in several lists. It was the ONE ITEM my father said if he were to do it again as far as being in a war (WWII vet), he would DEFINATELY have more/better TP. Nothing worse than using local flora as a poor substitute. That has ALWAYS stuck with me. SO LOTS of TP. The lists have been changed, modified, expanded, etc over the years. Don't forget YOUR PAPERS! YOU MUST HAF YOUR PAPERS TO GO ANYWHERE. That should include all insurance and medical stuff. As well as id's etc. And some form of timeline (the first 24 hours, the first 48 hours, the first week, the first month) AND some form of communications with someone NOT in the disaster zone that can communicate to other family members your status. This was all started because we lived in KALIFORNIA for several years. We have always had this type of preparedness since then. Hope it helps. |
Re: Survival List - Feel free to include
I didn't read through all the lists, so sorry if this is a repeat.
Plastic Zip Ties Several sises but plenty of the large foot long ones. They would be invaluble when constructing a primitive shelter. |
Re: Survival List - Feel free to include
Good list all around! I spend alot of time out in the desert and surrounding mtns, and among the "other essentials" that i would bring are duct tape, bailing wire, & wire ties. those 3 items have saved my butt more than a few times.

Re: Survival List - Feel free to include
Folks, as a gunsmith, I have a tool box full of specialty tools. As a mechanic the same holds true. Then there is the box that holds my 'home repair' type tools.
I would ALSO have a large stack of plastic boxes (the ones with the clamshell lids) that have ALL SORTS of stuff in them. Everybody goes, "but how will you carry all that stuff?" In my deuce and a half. Multifuel turbo 6x6. It would become a lot of things, including my tent, my shop, my moving van and my dog house (as in I'm in trouble with the wife now - you KNOW she is gonna blame me for this whole shtf scenario, right? :cheerful: ). But that would ONLY be IF it was an actual shtf or teotwawki. Otherwise, I'll hunker down here in my home. I've almost completed our basement remodel that includes a nice big bedroom & bathroom on one half - the other half is storage and my workshop. I have a spot that I can turn into a kitchen and vent heat and smoke out via a clandestine exit through the roof. |
